United Way Family Enrichment Center Profile
The Family Enrichment Center of Ozaukee, 501 (c)(3), owns the United Way
Family Enrichment Center which houses a collaboration of 9 nonprofit health & human service agencies providing services to local families and
individuals. Their vision is to enhance the capabilities of
participating
agencies to deliver more comprehensive, integrated and centralized
family-focused services to the Ozaukee community. The Family Enrichment
Center seeks to serve the public in the most welcoming and helpful way possible.
Offering family enrichment programming for infants to seniors, the agencies
in the Family Enrichment Center are working together to serve Ozaukee County. The broad-based services currently provided at the Family Enrichment Center
include information and referral, affordable individual, couple and family
counseling, parenting education and support programs, services to infants,
children, adults, and senior citizens, services for disabled persons and their
families, economic assistance, volunteer opportunities, recruitment and
training, and results-based program development.
By housing multiple agencies under one roof, the Family Enrichment Center
allows participating agencies to work cooperatively. This is done not only
by enhancing coordinated program results, but also by cultivating collaborative
planning and shared programming. Taken as a whole, a relationship such as
this decreases duplication and minimizes costs.
The Family Enrichment Center is governed by a board of directors consisting
of a representative from the tenant agencies, as well as individuals from the
general public who bring their particular skills to the board. Currently there
is one part time employee of the Family Enrichment Center, the executive
director, who manages the building in conjunction with volunteers and staff from
the tenant agencies.
Our History
The Family Enrichment Center concept began in 1995 when several agencies
shared space in the Cedar Mills building in Cedarburg. In 1999, the four
participating agencies: COPE Services Administrative Offices, Ozaukee Family
Services, United Way of Greater Milwaukee and the Volunteer Center of Ozaukee
County moved to a larger facility on Badger Circle in Grafton. Currently
The
Family Enrichment Center houses many more health and human service agencies
including: Advocates of Ozaukee, Big Brothers and Big Sisters,
COPE Services Administrative Offices, Independence First, Lutheran Social Services- Birth to Three Program,
Ozaukee Family Services, Ozaukee Works, Volunteer Center of Ozaukee, and Youth & Family Project. This collaboration has partnered
agencies that help build strong families and improve the quality of life
throughout Ozaukee County. The Family Enrichment Center began with a dream
and now serves as a shining example of what a caring community can come together
to accomplish.
